Auditions 2025
NEW! performance academy presents: summer musical theatre intensive
Join us for a Summer Musical Theatre Intensive as part of our new PERFORMANCE ACADEMY division. Our Performance Academy focuses on all the elements of performance from professional auditions through showtime. Our instructors will give professional feedback every step of the way and use the show's script and musical score as the main teaching tool to focus on improving theatrical skills. Most shows just teach you how to do THAT show in as little time as possible, but not ours! There is a lot of instruction and learning about the overall theatrical process during this intensive. Think of having voice instruction, acting coaching, and an agent all in one. Receive pointers for improving in the current show as well as how to nail that next community show all in one! Learn to go from ensemble to lead! So how do you get in?
STEP 1: Submit for an Audition INVITE
Auditions are required for the Summer Performance Academy. Headshots and resumes will be submitted in order to receive an audition invite. Just like a professional auditions, your resume and headshot will be the one piece to determine if you will be given a chance to audition so focus on creating a great one! Email to info@interactacademy.com with a subject of “Summer Performance Academy” when you have it all ready! (Deadline: Feb 15th)
STEP 2: The Audition
If you get an audition invite, you will receive a March audition time. You will need to prepare a 16-32 bar cut of music from a musical theatre show (no Disney movies or pop please). Be sure that you have the accompaniment track to play at your audition. We will provide a speaker or you can bring your own. Be prepared to SING and ACT during your audition. Cold readings from the script will also be given during the audition.
STEP 3: Cast Selection
We will notify you by March 31st if you are accepted into the Summer Performance Academy. We will provide you with a script and a detailed rehearsal schedule.
STEP 4: The Commitment
We will rehearse & learn once a week for 2 hours - May 19-July 11th (not during July 4th weekend). We understand there may be some absences due to summer travel so please list all conflicts and read our rehearsal agreement carefully. The last 2 weeks of July will be our tech intensives where we finalize the show and begin performances. No absences will be honored July 16-26. Performances will be held July 24, 25, 26.
SHOW TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON! Look for teasers on Instagram and Facebook!
DIRECTOR: Ms. Jami Weckstein
MUSICAL DIRECTOR: Ms. Carol Wilman
GUEST PRESENTERS: To be announced
We are looking for sopranos, mezzo-sopranos and tenors. All participants must be able to ACT while they SING. This intensive will focus on these key skills:
1) COMMAND OF THE STAGE
When you have a lead or featured role, how do you take command of the stage? How do you stand or move confidently to keep the audience's attention for an extended amount of time? Just YOU!
WHY IS THIS SKILL IMPORTANT?
This skill is extremely important in landing those lead roles and must be showcased in auditions to even get the part!
2) VOCAL TECHNIQUE
Breath control, harmonizing, and polyphonic singing (more than one melodic line occurring simultaneously) will be featured skills in this intensive. You will also learn how to write about your vocal skills on your resume, as well as nailing a call back that might ask you to harmonize.
WHY IS THIS SKILL IMPORTANT?
In every musical audition, you will need to sing 16-32 bars. MOST MUSICALS require harmony and polyphonic (complex) singing so the more you practice, the better you will be. It is MUCH different than choir singing - especially when everyone has a mic. Trust me!
3) CHARACTER
How do you leave your normal walk and talk to become a character? Great actors look and sound different in every show as they BECOME the CHARACTER.
WHY IS THIS SKILL IMPORTANT?
If you plan to have varying roles in the theatre industry, this skill is a must! If you cannot BECOME the CHARACTER, you will find yourself typecast as the same role throughout your career. Can you be a princess and a villain? Can you be a Captain Hook and a Peter Pan?
4) RESUME BUILDING
How do you take the skills learned here and from your past experiences to advertise yourself for your next show? How do you write a good bio? What connections are important during a show to land the next one? Learn to network!
WHY IS THIS SKILL IMPORTANT?
It isn't just about being accepted into this summer performance intensive. It is about enhancing your skills to make you more marketable to school and community theatres! The larger your network, the bigger your theatre opportunities become!
What else do you need to know?
We will produce a 1 hour MTI Jr show which features NO ENSEMBLE. Every part is a featured role.
NOTE: There are 4 non-singing roles for those who have acting skills that surpass their singing skills at the moment. However, this intensive will help boost your singing skills for your next show or performance intensive!
Fees: There are NO FEES to apply or audition. If you are accepted into the intensive program, you will be responsible for a fee of $350 to confirm your enrollment. This fee includes a camp t-shirt, your materials and all production expenses. Please do not let money hold you back from your dreams. Discuss payment options if needed.
